  • No it is not, rather an altered state of wakefulness.

  • If I need help, something is wrong with me. I must be broken, incapable, or simply abnormal?Just like with physical illness, mental issues, behavioural issues and adjustment problems too are medical problems, which demand urgent attention, without any delays. As one wouldn’t say that a person having flu, cavities or eye sight issues is n to a broken person similarly people handling issues at mental levels are also not broken or incapable.

    No one will understand my problems. I don’t deserve help? Help is just a call away to a qualified trained therapist. And then therapist understand you as they are trained in this profession to extend understanding and support towards each client.

    If I come for an appointment, I will be hospitalised or instutionalised? Some major pressing issues like suicidal attempts or severe depression may call out for hospital assistance but others need pure therapy and counselling to get their issues resolved.

    Therapy is just a lot of talking. I can get the help I need from friends. Search engines, related social media apps? It is well accepted that friends and family are a huge support but there is stuff which might be related to friends and family and creating unrest would need a trained personnel to help you overcome your hurdles.

    I can see a psychiatrist and get issues resolved? Why go to a Counsellor or a therapist? Each professional has a definite clear cut role just like a psychiatrist can prescribe medicines to alleviate issues a Counsellor and therapist makes use of no-pill modalities to resolve and overcome issues.

    Once I take treatment I will have to continue for a  lifetime ? Nothing like that. Therapy addresses the issues at the core and if continued till the last session doesn’t need to be redone.

    I can’t afford it. Its expensive? Therapy and counselling are life changing modalities and anything twisting and turning our life for good cannot be economical. Hence therapy charges are either less or equivalent to any surgical procedure.
